Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES-Ghana) has organised a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop under the Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment (YIEDIE). This workshop sought to train 21 energetic individuals in the use of the YIEDIE integrated training curriculum developed by YES-Ghana.
YIEDIE is designed to increase employment and entrepreneurship in the construction sector among disadvantaged youth over a period of five years in five of Ghana’s largest cities.
The four day ToT workshop which took place at Dodowa was facilitated by YES-Ghana’s Training and Capacity Building Manager, Kimberley Green. The workshop was an opportunity for all 21 YIEDIE Trainers recruited by YES-Ghana and Opportunities Industrialization Centre – Ghana (OICG), to be trained in the use of the curriculum developed by YES-Ghana. The curriculum offers training in four topic areas: Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Life Skills Planning and Work Readiness. The curriculum will provide youth trainees with an 8 week comprehensive training course that will equip them with the entrepreneurial skills and knowledge required to start a new career within Ghana’s construction sector.
The programme was a combination of interactive activities, lectures and simulation exercises, all geared towards preparing trainers to deliver training to the highest standard and with the right level of energy and confidence to manage the target youth group. A trainer at the workshop expressed his satisfaction with the training as:
“I have networked and met new people; gained a deeper understanding into individual and group perspectives as well as more knowledge of handling disadvantaged youth.”
The YIEDIE training programme starts in October 2015. Recruitment for young participants is on-going in Accra and Sekondi-Takoradi. Youth between the ages of 17 & 24 who are out of school, unemployed and interested in construction should contact: 0560266666 (Accra) or 0560266667 (Sekondi-Takoradi).
YIEDIE is part of the Youth Forward Initiative and being implemented by Global Communities, Youth Empowerment Synergy, OICG, African Aurora Business Network, Artisans Association of Ghana and HFC Boafo.
