Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment (YIEDIE) has been launched in Takoradi.
YIEDIE is designed to increase employment in the construction sector amongst disadvantaged youth. The programme is being implemented over 5 years, creating opportunities for young people between the ages of 17 and 24 who are out of school, unemployed or underemployed and have an interest in construction.
The stationed community outreach programme took place at the Takoradi Market Circle. The event team made up of YES-Ghana staff, OICG Field officers and YES-Ghana volunteers interacted with vendors and their buyers in the market. Young people assisting their relatives within the market came out to the YIEDIE stand to understand what the programme had to offer while others called out to YES-Ghana staff to ask questions. The team also visited and interacted with shop owners, drivers and commuters to explain and answer questions related to YIEDIE.
Passers-by who expressed interest in acquiring construction, technical, financial, entrepreneurial and life skills under YIEDIE were screened while others picked up flyers and provided details of their children at home . The event also saw many young women expressing interest in the programme.
YIEDIE is part of the Youth Forward Initiative and being implemented by Global Communities, Youth Empowerment Synergy, OICG, African Aurora Business Network, Artisans Association of Ghana and HFC Boafo.
