A residential Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for patrons of SDG Youth Clubs, under the Youth Action Campaign, was organised by the Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES – Ghana) with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The workshop took place on the 21st – 22nd September, 2017 at the MJ Grand Hotel in Accra.
The SDG Youth Action Campaign is an ambitious youth-led initiative that seeks to revolutionise effective youth participation and demystify the development process for young people. The project seeks to stimulate youth action right from the outset of the SDGs and positions youth as important actors in Ghana’s pursuit of achieving the SDGs. The SDG Youth Club is an innovative approach towards enhancing and galvanising the interest of youth in forming a strong foundation for the SDG Campaign. Clubs have currently been formed in various Senior High Schools and communities across the country.
The workshop targeted patrons/facilitators of the clubs towards increasing the knowledge base on the Sustainable Development Goals and also building their capacities on how to effectively manage the SDG clubs. Through participatory and experiential learning techniques, topics such as Leading Effective Discussions, Managing all Types of Participants and Creative Presentations were discussed. Participants were engaged in a simulation exercise, with each member being peer reviewed by fellow participants. The reference material used during the simulation session was the SDG Club Manuals – manuals specially prepared for the running of the Youth Clubs.
The Project Lead, Ms. Obaa Akua Konadu, was optimistic that the Workshop had equipped the patrons/facilitators with needed knowledge, experience and skills to effectively maintain the SDG Youth Clubs.
