To achieve its mission, YES Ghana undertakes specific, targeted programmes in collaboration with other development organisations. Some ongoing projects are listed below:
Young Peace Ambassadors Programme: This programme has developed a team of 70 well-informed, trained and enthusiastic young
people who are championing the course of peace in Alavanyo and Nkonya. Through this programme, no significant violence was recorded during the 2008
elections in the Alavanyo-Nkonya areas, compared to the recent past where tension and emnity between the two traditional areas resulted in massive chaos.
Generation for Peace Initiative: Building on efforts under the YPA programme, the G4P initiative set in place a sustainable mechanism for engaging young people who hitherto have had little or no participation in the peace processes for Alavanyo and Nkonya. A week-long G4P Camp was held for the young ambassadors to kick-start the process, and a joint Youth Communiqué
containing youth positions on relevant issues, plus an outline of proposed
youth and stakeholder actions for sustaining peace and development in Alavanyo
and Nkonya was released by the young people themselves. This is first of its kind in the two areas.
Career Development Programme: Funded by the UNDP, this programme supports Ghana’s Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS-II) priority on human resource development for poverty reduction by increasing employment opportunities for young people and improving the support mechanisms necessary for entry into the job market.
MDG Youth Project: This raises awareness among young people about the MDGs, generates consensus among them to take pivotal role in the national processes towards achieving the goals, and builds the capacity of youth to “watch” government policies from a youth perspective
Youth Development Dialogue Series: This is held quarterly and provides the opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to deliberate on national youth policy, and to forge partnerships to ensure active youth participation in national development.
